Prof. Krishna Saraswat is the Rickey/Nielsen Chair Professor in the School of Engineering, Professor of Electrical Engineering and by courtesy Professor of Materials Science & Engineering at Stanford University. He also has an honorary appointment of an Adjunct Professor at the BITS, Pilani, India. He received Ph.D. from Stanford University and B.E. from BITS, Pilani. Prof. Saraswat is working on a variety of problems related to new and innovative materials, structures, and process technology of silicon, germanium and III-V devices and interconnects for VLSI and nanoelectronics. Areas of his current interest are: new device structures to continue scaling MOS transistors, DRAMs and flash memories to nanometer regime, 3-dimentional ICs with multiple layers of heterogeneous devices, metal and optical interconnections and high efficiency and low cost solar cells. Prof. Saraswat has supervised more than 85 doctoral students, 30 post doctoral scholars and has authored or co-authored 15 patents and over 1000 technical papers, of which 10 have received Best Paper Award. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He received the Thomas Callinan Award from The Electrochemical Society in 2000, the 2004 IEEE Andrew Grove, Inventor Recognition Award from MARCO/FCRP in 2007, the Technovisionary Award from the India Semiconductor Association in 2007 and the Semiconductor Industry Association Researcher of the Year Award in 2012. He is listed by ISI as one of the 250 Highly Cited Authors in his field.

Svetlana V. Boriskina

Svetlana V. Boriskina is a research scientist at MIT. She received her PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics from Kharkiv National University, Ukraine. Dr. Boriskina's research focuses on the development of smart sustainable fabrics for thermal comfort, new metamaterials to manipulate light in unusual ways, optical bio-(chemical) sensing platforms to achieve rapid lowcost medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring, as well as solar- and heat-harvesting platforms to provide clean energy and fresh water to off-grid and disaster-stricken communities. Svetlana has authored over 110 publications, has led multiple U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, NATO, and industry-funded projects, holds many patents on optical sensor, solar and thermal energy conversion, and solar desalination systems. She currently serves as a Director-at-Large at the Optical Society (OSA), the Lead Editor for the Optics Energy & Environmental Express, a Topical Editor for the Journal of Optics, and an Advisory Board Member for the Optics and Photonics News Magazine.

Ahmed Busnaina

Ahmed A. Busnaina, Ph.D. is the William Lincoln Smith Chair Professor and Director of NSF Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing and the NSF Center for Nano and Micro contamination Control at Northeastern University, Boston, MA. He specializes in Nanoscale defects removal, mitigation and characterization, chemical and particulate contamination in semiconductor processes and in the fabrication of micro and nanoscale structures. He authored more than 420 papers in journals, proceedings, and conferences. He serves on the editorial advisory board of the Semiconductor International Magazine, the Journal of Particulate Science and Technology and the Journal of Environmental Sciences. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the Adhesion Society, a Fulbright Senior Scholar in addition to numerous listings in Who's Who (in the World, in America, in science and engineering, etc.)

Michael J. Naughton

Title: Nanocoax: A Device Architecture with Nanophotonic and Bioelectronic Utility

Michael J. Naughton is the Evelyn J. and Robert A. Ferris Professor in the Department of Physics at Boston College. After received his Ph.D. from Boston University in 1986, Naughton worked as a postdoctoral researcher for Paul Chaikin at the University of Pennsylvania's Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter before joining the faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1988. He joined the faculty at Boston College in 1998 and assumed the chairmanship of the Physics Department in 2006, after serving as Associate Vice President for Research. Naughton is an APS Fellow, a past NSF Young Investigator, and a past member of the Executive Committee of the APS Division of Condensed Matter Physics (DCMP). An experimentalist with over 200 publications and 25 patents, Naughton's research concentrates on experimental condensed matter & materials physics and nanoscale integrated science. His particular interests lie in low dimensional electron physics and nanobioscience. He has co-founded two technology companies, including Solasta, Inc., a venture-backed solar company based on inventions relating to the manipulation of light on the nanoscale.

Shweta Agarwala

Title: Printed Electronics: What can it Deliver?

Shweta obtained her Master's in Microelectronics at the prestigious Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and later defended Ph.D. at the National University of Singapore (Singapore). She was a postdoc at the Energy Research Institute in Singapore and later went to Singapore Centre for 3D Printing to pursue research in printed electronics before traveling to Denmark. Shweta is a tenure-track Assistant professor at the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark, and heads “printed electronics technology” group. Her research focuses on using printed technology to enable flexible electronics on unconventional substrates like paper, textiles, polymers, medical plasters, and biomaterials. Shweta is author of more than 40 peer-reviewed papers published in internationally renowned journals, books, and conferences. She is a senior IEEE member and vice-chair of women in engineering IEEE Denmark. Using patented technology, her group is developing electrically functional stockings to prevent loss of muscle mass in bed-ridden ICU COVID-19 patients.

Swapnajit Chakravarty

Title: Silicon Photonics for Sensing and Communications

Swapnajit Chakravarty received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in III-V nano-optoelectronic devices and sensors. He received his MS and BEE in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India respectively. At present, he is Principal Researcher at IMEC USA driving device design, fabrication and measurement in wafer-scale silicon, III-V, and ferroelectrics for monolithic and hybrid PICs. Previously, he has served as Program Manager and Principal Investigator on 22 SBIR/STTR programs on handheld/portable chem-bio sensors and LIDAR using near- and mid-infrared Si and III-V PICs. Dr. Chakravarty has 15 issued patents, 47 peer-reviewed journal papers, 85 conference papers, and 7 invited talks. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, SPIE, and OSA. Dr. Chakravarty’s talk will review micro- and nano-photonics activities for sensing and communications.
